It seems that the folks at Know Your Mobile have been able to grab a few still images of upcoming applications for the Windows Phone 7 mobile platform that is expected to arrive in phones later this year. No word yet if the apps will com pre-installed, be offered as free downloadable content from the Microsoft Marketplace or will be regular apps that have to be purchased.

In many ways, we are pretty much under whelmed with the sheer simplicity of these applications –they seem like random doodads that Android developers can create with only a few lines of code. Still, the potential is already there and it will not take long before developers expound further on the apps that were shown.

WP7 is getting a simple calendar app which will provide you with a quick heads up of the time, date and general weather forecast. The only problem is that the information is most likely also to be found on the home screen –if not by default, you can most probably assign a tile to display that info.

The second app on the list is a quirky little map function that will help you plan a route for your jog. While you can probably achieve the same functionality by setting the GPS on your smart phone to walk instead of drive, a jogging app is far more specialized. No details yet on what extra features are present, but we at least expect a route planner that would take into account the number of miles you need to run to burn a certain amount of calories.

One interesting new feature is the Microsoft Tag. No confirmation yet if the feature is an official app from MS, but it does seem to be a very useful tool for marking and tagging content on your phone with labels and a visual tag -though we have yet to see how the tags are to be applied.
